Rotary
From Colin Macfarlane
Member Rotary eClub one District 5450.
My link to Rotary goes back to 2001. At that time I lived in Melbourne, and had a friend who was a member of the Rotary Club of Box Hill Central. Rotary Australia has an organization called ROMAC.
ROMAC brings overseas children with life threatening medical problems to hospitals around Australia.
I funded a little girl with a "hole in the heart" to come from East Timor to Royal Children's Hospital for surgery. Marie made a great recovery and I have been back to see her several times and her life is going well.

After this was persuaded to join Rotary!
In 2004 I part funded an Interplast visit of plastic surgeons to Dhaka Medical College Hospital Bangladesh. Interplast is a partnership between Rotary Australia and The Australian College of Surgeons.

As an observer was shocked by what I saw. It seemed untreated disabilities were everywhere. I saw many untreated cleft lips and palates. So Operation Cleft was formed. With Rotary Club of Box Hill Central we started raising money to fund cleft repairs. The surgery was carried out by Bangladesh surgeons. Operation Cleft grew rapidly and is now supported by hundreds of Rotary Clubs around Australia: over 5000 operations to date.
My new challenge is Walk for Life. This is administered by the Glencoe Foundation.
In November, I plan to speak to 30 clubs in District 5450. and I will start building a Rotary partnerships with clubs around the world.
The target : By the end of 2012 all children in Bangladesh born with a club foot disability have the opportunity to receive corrective treatment by their second birthday.
With support from Rotary Clubs around the world we can do it!
is now financially supported by :
- Rotary e-club one of Denver USA
- Rotary Club of Box Hill Central Melbourne Australia
- Rotary Club of Dhaka Borigonga Bangladesh
- Rotary Club of Elthorne Hillingdon. London UK.
